Dissertation: Image Quality Assessment Via a Human Visual System Model.
I developed a multichannel human visual system (HVS) model for image quality assessment. The model's Gabor pyramid structure is consistent with the physiology of the HVS. I designed psychophysical experiments to measure contrast detection and discrimination thresholds as a function of stimulus frequency, orientation, average luminance, and contrast. The results of these experiments are used within the model. The model output corresponds well with perceptual judgments for a wide variety of conditions.
